The Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Messinia is a second instance cooperative of farmers of the Messinia prefecture. It was founded in 1987, when seven first instance farmers’ cooperatives joined together and now numbers 244 first instance cooperatives and 26000 natural persons as its members. Its aim is to protect the interest of its members and to ensure the superior quality of the crops produced in Messinia. Special emphasis is placed on the standardization and marketing of these products, such as the extra virgin olive oil, the Kalamata table olives and the Corinth currant. 

Today the Messinia UAC has three state of the art processing – packaging plants for olive oil, table olives and currant, which observe European standards, and separate covered storage and service spaces. Due to the special emphasis placed on the sector of foodstuffs, the Messinia UAC has created a fully equipped chemical laboratory.  Its well trained staff allows it to respond to the high demands now placed by international regulations concerning issues of food safety and quality. 

The Messinia UAC only uses the produce of Messinia and specifically that of its members in order to ensure the highest quality for the final product. It is one of the first Unions in Greece to have been awarded ISO 9001, certified according to TUV Germany and a HACCP file.
